My mom's friend is in the market and doesn't know what to get. The 3.2 Pentastar or the 2.4 Tigershark. Anyone have any opinion/knowledge on the matter?

Putastar, Pentastar, WHATEVAHHHH.

Pentastar, I'd imagine the Tigershark is a little underpowered for the application.

AMC 4.0 Straight Six.

4.0 H.O. is the only real motor

Unless the Tigershark has been recalibrated with the 9 speed, its awful. It hunts worse than African tribal poachers.

Great great great photo.
I wouldn't know anything about those engines I am sorry.

Did not liek the 2.4L, did not get to try the 3.2. Talk her into a Trailhawk :)

Yeah but this isn't a real Cherokee. I think the 4.0 might break the Cherodart.
I recommended the 4.0 too.

Wait a second. That's only a '96, why does the configuration look different than my '95?

Star for meBait. And the answer is Hellcat.

What do you mean? In 96 they switched to OBD2 but other than that i think they were the same.

hellcat? if you could get that outof the Jag and into the cherokee it would be acceptable. Its been used in work trucks before
and off road too

I've heard pretty good review about the pentastar, but not too much about the tigershark, even though hellcat is always the answer, she should go with the pentastar

If you are talking new Cherokee, don't confuse with similar XJ postings. I only know one engine for an XJ.

Wish I had OBD2...
A couple lines looked different is all.

Yea probably ac lines and such.
I have a 91 cherokee. I know the feels

Basically it's a 97 with an old face
The better intake I thing started around then too, rounded instead of all squared off.

At least the Cherokee has a way of letting you know what's wrong without needing OBD.

Please don't tell me the alternator is higher up too.

I don't know, never changed it.
Someone else did.

But an XJ buddy did swap a 95 or 96 into his 89 & kept renix system for some reason. Put 300,000+ miles on the chassis.
Aw4 trans don't like water.

Yes, but... He said Cherokee, not Cherokee.
The Cherokee is dead, long live the Cherokee.

My AW4 hasn't complained.

4.0 straight 6.
![]() 12/22/2014 at 21:32 |

Yeah, maybe his had the 300k miles and sunk in a mud pit for some time ( hour) submerged.
He now trailers it.
![]() 12/22/2014 at 21:33 |

Eventually, because I will never sell my Cherokee, I'll end up having to trailer mine...being pulled by another Cherokee.

Either get the 4 cyl with the manual or the V6 with the automatic.
